Central Africa – Virunga – Akagera
The seven day/six night itinerary journeys to Akagera and Virunga Voclanoes National Park in Rwanda. Included in the itinerary is a bucket list activity to see the mountain gorilla. Spend three nights in the Virunga Volcanoes discovering more about these magnificent primates. Your stay here is fully inclusive in a luxury lodge. Visit the Diane Fossey Memorial and take a trek with golden monkeys.
Combine this with plains game viewing in a beautiful wilderness on the eastern border of the country. The park borders Lake Rwanyakazinga which creates an interesting mix between savannah and wetland. From your tented safari camp you’ll enjoy game drives, walks and boating activities.
Arrive in Kigali off your international flights. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial before transferring by road or helicopter to Akagera National Park. The safari camp is spacious and well-appointed, with just six rooms. The lodge has a lovely view across Lake Rwanyakazinga. Check-in for three nights on a fully inclusive basis.
Note: An overnight in the city with extra optional activities may be necessary depending on flight schedules.

Surrounded by steep volcanoes, the area is spectacularly scenic. The slopes below the peaks of Bisoke, Mikeno and Karisimbi, are covered with Afro-alpine forests. Belts of bamboo provide food for the mountain gorilla families living amongst the vegetation.
You’ll check-in to your luxury lodge for three nights on a fully inclusive basis.
Today you’ll meet at the park headquarters early in the morning. Here you’ll be assigned to a group of six tourists led by wildlife guides. There are porters available to carry daypacks and cameras for each visitor. On finding the gorillas, you’ll be able to observe them for one hour before returning to home base.
There will be a chance to enjoy a scenic drive around the volcanoes to visit the Diane Fossey memorial. There might be time to enjoy a trek with the golden monkeys if you choose to add this into the experience.
You’ll be transferred by road to Kigali when you’ll connect to your international flights.
